Biagio Pecorino

Full Professor of Agricultural and Food Economics, and Rural Appraisal [AGRI-01/A]

Biagio Pecorino is a full professor at the University of Catania. He teaches "Economics and Management of Innovation" in the L25 Agricultural Sciences and Technologies course and "Food Safety Policies and Regulations" in the LM70 Food Sciences and Technologies course. He has chaired degree programs and directed training activities and university master's programs. He has coordinated research projects of national and international interest, funded by various public and private institutions.

He has conducted in-depth studies on business creation in the agri-food sector, speaking at numerous conferences and seminars. He has gained significant experience studying the main agri-food supply chains, with particular emphasis on the valorization of quality production, food safety, and competitiveness. He serves as a referee for leading Italian and international journals in the field.

He has held coordination roles as president and/or member of the boards of directors or commissioner of various research and experimental organizations (ENAMA, Consortium for the Training of Agricultural Extension Workers, Experimental Station for Granicoltura per la Sicilia, Agrobiopesca Consortium, etc.). He coordinated the Single Cereal District and promoted and organized several national and international scientific conferences. He is the scientific director of several applied research projects.

He has collaborated with various organizations for the monitoring and evaluation of EU operational programs (Sicilian Region, Mipaff, etc.).

He is head of the Rural Economics and Valuation section of the Department of Agricultural and Food Sciences (Di3A) of the University of Catania.

He was a member of the committee for the National Scientific Qualification for the positions of full and associate professor, competitive sector 07/A1 - Agricultural Economics and Valuation.

He is past president of the Italian Society of Agri-food Economics (SIEA).
