Marta Bonforte

PhD Student
PhD in Agricultural, Food and Environmental Science - XXXIX Cycle
Tutor: Gaetana Mazzeo

From 2023: PhD at Di3a- Department of Agriculture, Food and Environments. The research activity, will focus on the topic "Effects of anthropogenic activities on bees and strategies to improve biodiversity".
The objectives of the PhD project are: 1) to investigate and obtain an overview of solitary pollinator bees in Mediterranean crops and different management systems, with in-depth studies on morphology and biology; 2) Studying food webs, plant-bee interactions in agroecosystems and natural systems; 3) Increasing biodiversity and improving environmental quality and the enhancement of areas through the use of endemic plants that are useful for pollinators.

May 2021 - February 2022 / April 2023 - July 2023: Work as an external consultant for the "BEENET" project (MIPAAF). The research activity is based on field sampling in order to study wild bees populations. Preparation in laboratory of specimens and data analysis.

July 2020: Qualification as Agronomist and Forestry Doctor.

2016-2019: Master's Degree in Agricultural Science and Technology, specialisation: Economic Planning (LM-69), University of Catania; Supervisors: Prof. Gaetana Mazzeo and Prof. Matilde Tessitori. Degree thesis: "Indagine preliminare sulla correlazione tra Varroa destructor e DWV in Apis mellifera siciliana in alcune aree della Sicilia". Final mark: 110/110 cum laude.

2010-2016: Bachelor Degree in Planning, Design and Management of Land and Environment (L-21), University of Catania; supervisor: Prof. Ferdinando Branca. Degree thesis: "Conservation in situ of progenitor species of agricultural crops". Final grade: 108/110.
