The PhD project aims to improve management strategies for controlling major fungal diseases affecting citrus production in Sicily. These diseases, caused by fungi from Alternaria and Colletotrichum genera, pose significant challenges to citrus growers. Current control methods involve fungicide sprays, but this approach has negative impacts on human and environmental health and faces issues of resistance development. To address these problems, the project focuses on researching alternative management strategies, including the use of biological control agents, and monitoring the development of fungicide resistance in Alternaria and Colletotrichum populations.
