The main research activities are generally aimed at promoting efficient water-saving strategies and meeting policy requirements regarding water use to improve the sustainability of irrigated agriculture. These activities concern:

Precision irrigation

  • Drip irrigation methods;
  • Deficit irrigation strategies and soil conservation practices;
  • Irrigation scheduling using remote/proximal sensing techniques;
  • Monitoring of crop stress (biotic/abiotic) conditions using remote/proximal sensing techniques.

Agricultural and environmental monitoring at different spatial scales

  • Monitoring of land cover using remote sensing techniques;
  • Monitoring of irrigated areas using remote sensing techniques;
  • Monitoring of crop water requirements using remote sensing techniques and climate reanalysis data;
  • Hydro-climatic monitoring using climate reanalysis data.
