In 2003, he graduated with a degree in Tropical and Subtropical Agricultural Sciences (110/110 cum laude). In March 2007, he earned a PhD in "Crop Productivity" (19th cycle), defending a dissertation titled "Analysis of Genetic Variability and Environmental Effects in Sicilian Populations and Ecotypes of Artichoke." In 2012, he completed a second-level master’s program in “Integrated Management of Quality and Safety in Agri-Food Supply Chains” at the University of Catania.

During the 2007-2008, 2008-2009, and 2009-2010 academic years, he taught the “Genetic Improvement” module within the Master's Degree Program in Tropical and Subtropical Agricultural Sciences at the University of Catania. Starting from the 2018-2019 academic year, at the same university, he has been teaching the module “Restoration of Degraded Areas to Green” as part of the Master's Degree Program in Land, Environment, and Landscape Protection.

In 2019, he obtained the National Scientific Qualification for Associate Professor in the competitive examination sector 07/B1 (Agronomy and Herbaceous and Horticultural Crop Systems). Since July 2, 2018, he has been a fixed-term researcher (Type A) in the Department of Agriculture, Food, and Environment (Di3A), specializing in SSD AGR04 (Horticulture and Floriculture). From September 1, 2021, he has served as a fixed-term researcher (Type B) in the same department and specialization. As of September 1, 2024, he has been an associate professor in the Department of Agriculture, Food, and Environment (Di3A) in the SSD AGRI-02/B (Horticulture and Floriculture).
