Luisa BIONDI, Master in Agriculture Science and Technology (110/110 cum laude) in 1988, PhD in Animal Production in Disadvantaged Areas in 1993, currently Associate Professor in Applied Animal Science at the University of Catania (UNICT, Italy). In May 2022 she obtained the national qualification for the role of full professor.

Her teaching activity for several years has focused on two courses: i) Sustainability of animal production systems (bachelor degree) and ii) Authentication of animal products (master degree). Starting from the Academic Year 2024-2025, she also has teaching a course on Seafood quality (bachelor degree). She was involved in two educational programs, now concluded, funded by the Erasmus Mundus: the Agris Mundus Master and the EMJD AgTraIn. She has supervised several thesis (bachelor, master or PhD); in particular, she was supervisor in 8 Agris Mundus M.Sc. thesis and 1 within AgTraIn program.

Her research activity, developed within national (6 as scientific leader) and international research programs (7th FP, Jesmed (within ITALIA-TUNISIA program), mainly  focuses on the relationships between animal production systems and product quality in sheep. Particular emphasis is given to the use of local feed resources and their effects on milk or meat nutritional and nutraceutical characteristics. Recent researches focus on the use of feeds rich in plant secondary compounds and on the feeding system traceability. She is co-author of 47 papers published in international ISI journals (current H-index = 23, Scopus, February 2025).

She was a member of the  organizing committee and scientific committee of the seminar of the FAO-CIHEAM “Network on Sheep and Goats Nutrition” held, respectively, in 2005 and in 2012 and of the Joint Seminar of the FAO CIHEAM Networks on Pasture and Forage Crops and on Sheep and Goat Nutrition (2022). She was the Faculty of Agriculture representative for the CInAP of UNICT, a service-center for disabled students (2000-2010). She was responsible of the teaching evaluation management in Catania's Faculty of Agriculture (2008-2011). She was vice-director of the department DACPA (2002-2005), responsible of the Animal Production Division of the DACPA (2008-2010) and local coordinator of the EMJD AgTraIn program for UNICT. In the period 2019-2022 she was responsible of the Animal Production Division of the Di3A, Erasmus and internationalization delegate of the Di3A and member of the Internationalization Commission of the University of Catania. From October 2022 she is part of the "Giunta di dipartimento".
