Research themes and Projects

The activity of the section is addressed to the study of sustainable agronomic management of agroecosystems and the main field crops in the Mediterranean environment. The main topics of research are: the influence of environmental and agronomic factors on both production and quality characteristics of field crops for food (cereals, grain legumes, oilseed, horticultural), animal husbandry (fodder) and non-food (textile, energy, pharmaceutical, cosmetic) sectors; the collection and exploitation of landraces germplasm; the ecophysiology of field crops; the evaluation of the carbon cycle in the constructed wetland systems; the definition of conventional, integrated, low-input and organic farming systems; the conservative management of soil; the agronomic strategies and tactics for the efficient use of native resources and to cope the climate change; the agro-meteorology and the modeling; the control of erosion, weeds and soil fertility through cover cropping.
