Learning Objectives

The course aims at transmitting basic knowledge on vegetable and ornamental plants and on the main goals of crop and product improvement. Referring to the mentioned group of crops, biotechnology application to their valorization, breeding, propagation and germplasm ex situ conservation will be described

Detailed Course Content

Vegetable and flower industry main crops and their final products.

The intrinsic characteristics of the product and the main biotic and abiotic stresses which may compromise yield and quality.

The main goals of plant breeding in vegetable and flower industry and their achievement by applying biotechnologies.

In vitro propagation techniques used for the main crops

Innovative technologies for germplasm ex situ conservation
