Curriculum vitae Paolo Guarnaccia
Guarnaccia Paolo was born in Catania (Italy) in 1961. He graduated in Agricultural Sciences at the University of Catania where, in 1991, he got the position of researcher at the Department of Agriculture, Food, and Environment, where he currently teaches Principles and agronomical practices in Organic Agriculture and General agronomy and herbaceous crops at the Special Educational Structure of Ragusa. He spent two years as a visiting scholar at the Department of Land, Air and Water Resources, University of California.
His research activity, partly documented by more than 50 scientific papers, is mainly related to crop physiology and sustainability assessment of low-input cropping systems in the Mediterranean environment (wheat landraces, rice, legumes, cotton, and hemp).
He is a member of the Italian Society for Agronomy (SIA) and the European Society for Agronomy (ESA). He is also a component of the CUTGANA Scientific Committee (University Center for Natural Areas and Agroecosystems Conservation and Management), Department of Agriculture of Sicilian Region Scientific boards on ‘Conservation of Plant Biodiversity’ and ‘Promotion of Organic Agriculture’ and scientific responsible for the EcoLab ‘Nature and Science’ of the University of Catania museum system.
He has been president of ‘AIAB Sicilia’ (Italian Association for Organic Agriculture), founder and first president of ‘Rifiuti Zero Sicilia’ (Zero Waste Sicily), founder and member of the executive board of ’ViviSimeto’ and ‘Rete Fattorie Sociali Sicilia’ associations (Sicilian Social Farms Network), founder and scientific coordinator of Simenza association (Cumpagnìa Siciliana Sementi Contadine). He is also part of the Scientific Committee of Zero Waste Research Centers at the Capannori Municipality (LU, Italy).
