AGRICULTURAL HYDRAULICS

Academic Year 2022/2023 - Teacher: SIMONA CONSOLI

Expected Learning Outcomes

At the end of the Agricultural Hydraulics course, students are expected to be able to carry out the design and verification of long hydraulic pipes, to carry out a dimensional analysis of hydraulic quantities, to know the characteristics of a swing opening and the prerogatives the state of rest of a fluid.

Course Structure

Teaching includes lectures and exercises.

If the teaching is given in a mixed or remote way, the necessary changes with respect to what was previously stated may be introduced, in order to respect the program reported in the syllabus.

As a guarantee of equal opportunities and in compliance with current laws, interested students can ask for a personal interview in order to plan any compensatory and/or dispensatory measures, based on their specific needs and on teaching objectives of the discipline.
It is also possible to ask the departmental contacts of CInAP (Center for Active and Participatory Integration - Services for Disabilities and/or DSAs), in the persons of professors Giovanna Tropea Garzia and Anna De Angelis.

Required Prerequisites

Basic knowledge of physics and mathematics (Non-preparatory)

Attendance of Lessons

Attendance at lessons is not compulsory, although strongly recommended.

Detailed Course Content

The course is articulated in lectures and applied sessions. Topics: fluids properties, fundamentals of hydrostatics, hydrodynamics, design and verification of canals and pipes for water conveyance facilities.

Learning Assessment

Learning Assessment Procedures

Students will take two written tests in progress: the first will take place in the first half of December of each AA,
the second at the end of the course (on a date preceding that of the first official exam). The two tests
they will cover different topics of the Agricultural Hydraulics program.

Written tests will include both exercises and open and / or multiple choice questions.

The possibility of accessing the second test requires passing the first with a minimum grade of
18/30.
Students who pass the two tests will be able to directly register the Hydraulics exam
Agriculture at the first useful appeal. The vote achieved will be the average of the marks of the two writings.
For those who do not pass the first or second written exam, the exam modalities will be only in the form of
"oral interview".
The writings are foreseen only in the didactic period (the ongoing one) and at the end of the Course (around the
end of January).
For all other exams scheduled during the AY, the exam form of the Agricultural Hydraulics Course will be
that of the "oral interview".

Verification of learning can also be carried out electronically, should the conditions require it.

Examples of frequently asked questions and / or exercises

1 Determine the force that a liquid exerts on the flat wall of a tank
collection
2 Apply the cardinal equation of statics for the calculation of hydrostatic pressure
3. Determine the flow through a long pipeline system
4. Design a free surface channel
