LANDSCAPE CHARACTERIZATION AND RURAL BUILDINGS
Module LANDSCAPE EVOLUTION AND CHARACTERIZATION

Academic Year 2022/2023 - Teacher: SIMONA MARIA PORTO

Expected Learning Outcomes

The course aims to provide students with the tools to know and understand the components of the landscape and their criticalities. The analysis of the relationship between man and landscape in history will allow students to know and understand the expressions of the components of the landscape in different historical periods. The study of traditional rural buildings will allow students to understand the relationship between buildings and landscape and te related socio-cultural and use value. The study of the role of natural factors and anthropogenic factors in the construction phase of new buildings for agriculture will allow students to learn the critical issues arising from the inclusion of new buildings in the landscape context. Finally, the course will introduce theoretical concepts concerning the main methods of landscape characterization and analysis of its evolution over time.

At the end of the course, students will be able to recognize the components of the landscape and understand their reciprocal relationships. They will be able to identify the main critical issues arising from the abandonment of traditional rural buildings and the inclusion of new buildings in the landscape.

Finally, through individual and group exercises, students will be able to develop interpersonal and communication skills, essential for carrying out future activities within multidisciplinary working groups.

Course Structure

Frontal teaching (28 hh), individual and group activities (28 hh). If measures to mitigate the impact of the pandemic should be incremented, lectures could be held online or in mixed mode.

As a guarantee of equal opportunities and in compliance with current laws, interested students can ask for a personal interview in order to plan any compensatory and/or dispensatory measures, based on their specific needs and on teaching objectives of the discipline. It is also possible to ask the departmental contacts of CInAP (Center for Active and Participatory Integration - Services for Disabilities and/or DSAs), in the persons of professors Giovanna Tropea Garzia and Anna De Angelis.

Required Prerequisites

Cartography and technical drawing.
