The aim of the course is to understand the history of the environment and the relationship between man and the environment. At the center will be the transition from the "ancient biological regime" to the Anthropocene. The analysis plan is that of a global history, within the framework of the economic, political and cultural processes that have marked the twentieth century. The different types of pollution during the '900 and the policies put in place (or not implemented) to cope with them are analyzed. Particular attention will be paid to environmental movements.
The workshop will focus the relationship between cinema and environmental emergency, with particular attention to dystopian cinema from the birth of cinematography to today.

The relationship between man and nature: the peculiarities of the '900. The primary elements of analysis: Lithosphere and pedosphere. Urban history and the environment. Atmosphere and hydrosphere. Industrial revolutions and their effects. Demography in the 20th century. Urban society. The consumer society. Environmental History, the Atomic age and the Cold War. Climate Change. The Current Emergency and the Mass Media. Environmental Controversy. Environmental Policies and International Agreements.
