Learning Objectives

  • HIDROLOGY AND WATER RESOURCE MANAGEMENT

The course aims to provide knowledge on hydrological processes and the main methods for the sustainable management of water resources. During the lessons, the following topics will be covered: surface and underground hydrology, mass and energy exchanges affecting the continuous soil-plant-atmosphere system, water resource management techniques aimed at water saving, including the deficit irrigation. During the lessons, the possibility of unconventional water reuse in agriculture (e.g. urban wastewater) will be examined; techniques and tools will be introduced for agro-ecosystems monitoring and for the soil water balance evaluation.

  • INGEGNERIA SANITARIA AMBIENTALE

Basic knowledge on pollution of solid and liquid matrices and engineering solutions.

Course Structure

  • HIDROLOGY AND WATER RESOURCE MANAGEMENT

Lectures and exercises (in the classroom; seminars) If the teaching is given in mixed or smart mode, the necessary changes can be introduced with respect to what previously stated, in order to comply with the program envisaged and reported in the syllabus.

Servizi per le Disabilità e/o i DSA) del nostro Dipartimento, proff. Giovanna Tropea Garzia e Anna De Angelis.

Information for students with disabilities and/or DSA.

As a guarantee of equal opportunities and in compliance with current laws, interested students can ask for a personal interview in order to plan any compensatory and/or dispensatory measures, based on their specific needs and on teaching objectives of the discipline. It is also possible to ask the departmental contacts of CInAP (Center for Active and Participatory Integration - Services for Disabilities and/or DSAs), in the persons of professors Giovanna Tropea Garzia and Anna De Angelis.

  • INGEGNERIA SANITARIA AMBIENTALE

Teaching will be be carried out in mixed mode or remotely. If same changes will occure, it may be necessary to introduce changes with respect to previous statements, in line with the programme planned and outlined in the syllabus.

Detailed Course Content

  • HIDROLOGY AND WATER RESOURCE MANAGEMENT

Hydrology: The watershed (general characteristics, elements of morphometry, definition of torrent and classifications); Flood hydrology (elements of statistics, pluviometry, surface outflows, estimate of flood flows). Water resource management: Water on earth, the global use of water resources, water footprint, anthropogenic influences on the hydrological cycle; Water in sustainable agriculture (water, agriculture and the environment, climate change); The water needs of crops (analysis of the evapotranspiration process, hints on micro meteorological techniques); New technologies for the estimation of irrigation needs on a farm and district scale; Soil water status (water-soil relationships; hydraulic characterization of soils); Main irrigation methods and deficient irrigation techniques; Water quality for irrigation use (use of reclaimed urban water, contructed wetlands).
