In 2003, Rosario Mauro obtained a Bachelor's degree in Tropical and Subtropical Agricultural Sciences (110/110 cum laude). In March 2007, he earned a Ph.D. in "Crop Science" (XIX cycle) by defending the final thesis titled "Analysis of Genetic Variability and Environmental Effects in Sicilian Artichoke Populations and Ecotypes." In 2012, he completed a second-level Master's degree in "Integrated Management of Quality and Safety in Agri-food Supply Chains" at the University of Catania.

During the Academic Years 2007-2008, 2008-2009, and 2009-2010, he taught the module on "Genetic Improvement" in the Master's Degree Program in Tropical and Subtropical Agricultural Sciences at the University of Catania. Starting from the Academic Year 2018-2019, at the same university, he has been teaching the module on "Restoration of Degraded Areas to Green" as part of the Master's Degree Program in Land, Environmental, and Landscape Conservation.

In 2019, he obtained the National Scientific Qualification as a second-level professor in the disciplinary sector 07/B1 (Agronomy and Horticultural Crop Systems). Since July 2, 2018, he have been a researcher (TD-a) at the Department of Agriculture, Food, and Environment (Di3A) in the field of SSD AGR04 (Vegetable and Floricultural Crop Systems). Since of September 1, 2021, he holds the position of researcher (TD-b) at the Department of Agriculture, Food, and Environment (Di3A) within the same SSD AGR04 (Vegetable and Floricultural Crop Systems).
