Andrea Criscione
Andrea Criscione is currently a fixed-term Assistant Professor of Livestock systems, animal breeding and genetics [AGR/17] at the Di3A Department, University of Catania. In 2001, he obtained a master's degree in Agricultural Sciences (110/110 cum laude) at the University of Catania, in 2002 the qualification for the profession of Agronomist, and in 2007 the PhD in "Animal Production in the Mediterranean Basin", Mediterranean University of Reggio Calabria. His scientific training also developed at the University of Life Sciences (UMB) in Aas (Oslo, Norway), during his Ph.D.
The collaboration with the University of Catania continued through research collaboration grants, scholarships and contracts aimed at scientific activity. During his training period, he held the role of an adjunct professor during A.Y. 2010-11 ("General Zootechnics" - CdL Agricultural Sciences and Technologies - 1st level degree and master's degree - Faculty of Agriculture, Ragusa), and A.Y. 2015-16 (“Animal production systems” - CdL Food Science and Technology - course 2 (M-Z), a module of the integrated course of Animal Production). He has participated in national and international conferences and as a research collaborator in projects of local and national interest.
Over the years he has developed several scientific collaborations with researchers affiliated to various Italian and foreign universities, as evidenced by his scientific production.
He holds a national scientific qualification (Associate professor) in the sector 07/G1 (Animal Sciences and Technologies - 2019-2028).
Since February 2023 he has been an ordinary member of the Animal Science and Production Association (A.S.P.A.).
Since June 2023 he has been a member of the "Animal Genetics and Genomics" section of the journal "Animals", holding the role of associate academic editor. Since July 2023 he has been a member of the "Livestock Genomics" section of the journals "Frontiers in Genetics" and "Frontiers in Veterinary Science", holding the role of associate academic editor.

His research activity is focused on the collection of biological samples, their processing in the laboratory and the handling of genetic/genomic characterization data of species of zootechnical interest (Cattle, Pigs, Sheep, Goats, Poultry and Equidae).
The scientific research activity concerns various issues of genetics, genomics and proteomics applied to the genetic improvement of livestock species:
- characterization of milk proteins by proteomic and genetic approach
- traceability and molecular authentication of dairy products
- interaction between genotype and nutrition
- study of the genomic structure of livestock biodiversity
