Teaching activities

He has been continuously teaching since the academic year 1996/97 at the Faculty of Agriculture of the University of Catania, initially as a university researcher, and since the a.y. 2003/2004 as an associate professor, teaching of different disciplines related to the scientific disciplinary sector AGR/01 Economics Rural Valuation.

In recent years he has been teaching the following disciplines: "Rural Estimation" (6CFU) in the Master's Degree Program in "Agricultural Sciences and Technologies" (LM69); "Environmental Economics" (6CFU) in the Degree Course in "Planning and protection of the territory and landscape" (L-21). During the Academic Year 2020/2021, he taught "Economics and management of innovations" (CdS L-25) and "Rural estimation" (CdS LM69) while during the current Academic Year 2021/2022, he teaches Environmental Economics (CdS L-21) and "Rural estimation" (CdS LM69). 

He has been tutor of 4 doctoral theses, thesis supervisor within the Agris Mundus Master of Science in Sustainable Development in Agriculture and tutor of numerous degree theses.

Research activities

He has participated in the activities of numerous national research projects, funded by MIUR, MiPAAFT and other bodies, and by the European union.

Scientific activity, documented by numerous publications and reports at international and national conferences, mainly concerns the following areas: the evaluation of environmental assets and natural resources; the evaluation of biodiversity and natural capital; the conservation policies and management of natural ecosystems, biodiversity and landscape; the contingent choice and evaluation experiments; the patterns of demand for environmental resources for recreational purposes; the assessment and mapping through GIS of ecosystem services; the evaluation of the benefits for the protection of animal breeds of livestock breeding interest at risk of extinction; the estimate of damage from natural disasters; estimating the impacts of climate change on agriculture and ecosystems; the estimate of environmental damage; methodologies for real estate estimation and analysis of the real estate market.

Other activities

As a member of the organizing committee he has contributed to the implementation of numerous initiatives (seminars, conferences, study meetings, workshops, etc.) held at the Department of afference, including, in more recent years: the 6th Coordination meeting of the European Project on "Economics of Coastal Hazard and Prevention (EcosHaz), Catania, 13-14 September 2016; the XLVI Study Meeting of the Center for Estimation and Territorial Economics (Ce.S.E.T.), Catania, 23-24 November 2017; the 7th European Workshop ENVironmental CHOice (ENVECHO) on Discrete Choice Experiments, Catania, 1-2 October 2018.
