Workshop

Workshop "Rapid Diagnostic Tools for Phytophthora" (http://www.phydaunict.it)

Vi aspettiamo in Sicilia

A Workshop on "Rapid Diagnostic Tools for Phytophthora" will be held at the University of Catania on May 17-19. (http://www.phydaunict.it). Register by March 31.

A theoretical-practical workshop on the identification of Phytophthora species with morphological and molecular methods will be held at the University of Catania, May 17-19. This event is appropriate for both plant pathologists and others working in the Phytosanitary Services. The objective of the workshop is to give students hands on opportunities to learn methodologies that can also be applied to field diagnostics using practical tools and methods. Correct diagnosis is essential for the application of adequate control strategies. The intention of the organizing committee is to extend the invitation to researchers, students and operators of phytosanitary services in the Mediterranean basin (Egypt, Tunisia, Algeria, France, Italy, etc.).

The workshop is organized by the Department of Plant Pathology of the Di3A (Department of Agriculture, Food and Environment), University of Catania in collaboration with Prof. Jean Ristaino, NC State University (USA) (https: //ristainolab.cals.ncsu. edu /) who is currently a guest of Di3A for a period of 6 months as part of the "Fulbright Scholar Program", award code number 7528, Fulbright - Foundation WITH THE SOUTH Award for Teaching / Research. Prof. Ristaino is an internationally recognized expert specialized in the diagnosis of diseases caused by Phytophthora, a very aggressive pathogen both of plant and ornamental crops and of fruit and forest trees. The workshop will take place at Di3A on 17th and 18th May. The registration will be € 200 (travel expenses, board and lodging excluded, see Registration and Accommodation).
